Clemson and Duke meet in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday night after both teams survived tight quarterfinal games. Clemson advanced with an 80-79 win over North Carolina, while Duke escaped Florida State 80-79 behind a huge scoring night from Isaiah Evans. The matchup pits one of the nation’s best overall teams against a Clemson group that has shown strong defense and an ability to slow the pace. Here, I break the game down and give you my Clemson vs Duke prediction.
Duke enters the semifinal with a 30-2 record and the top seed in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils have dominated most of the season with elite scoring and rebounding numbers. They were pushed to the limit in the quarterfinals, however, as Florida State nearly pulled the upset before Duke held on late.
The Blue Devils have also dealt with some injury concerns. Caleb Foster and Patrick Ngongba have both missed recent action, forcing Duke to rely even more on its star freshmen. Even with those absences, the offense still revolves around Cameron Boozer and the perimeter shooting of Isaiah Evans.
Clemson arrives with plenty of confidence after its one-point win against North Carolina. That result moved the Tigers to 24-9 on the season and continued a strong stretch of defensive basketball. Clemson has built its success on limiting possessions and forcing opponents into half-court sets.
Another storyline to watch is Clemson’s interior rotation after Carter Welling suffered a knee injury earlier in the tournament. His absence could affect Clemson’s ability to battle Duke on the boards.

Clemson deserves credit for its tournament run and for taking down a ranked North Carolina team in dramatic fashion by holding off a late run. The Tigers are disciplined defensively and tend to drag opponents into slower games. That style could keep the score manageable and limit Duke’s transition scoring.
Even with that in mind, Duke still holds the edge in talent and offensive efficiency. Boozer remains one of the toughest matchups in the country, and Evans provides a perimeter threat that Clemson struggled to contain in previous meetings. Duke also has a clear advantage on the glass, which could generate second-chance points.
In this game, I'm going to take the points with Clemson with the expectation that Duke wins by 8-10 points. The Tigers have already proven they can hang around with Duke for the most part on the defensive end of the floor and I think Clemson will do just enough offensively to keep things manageable.
