North Carolina arrives in California in an offensive rhythm, but also grappling with defensive inconsistency. The Tar Heels scored 90 points in a recent road game against Stanford, but still fell 95–90 due to defensive lapses and perimeter shots allowed late in that game. Henri Veesaar delivered 26 points in that contest, while Caleb Wilson continues to anchor UNC’s production with nearly 20 points and 11 rebounds per game. North Carolina averages 82.2 points per game and has a strong rebounding advantage relative to many opponents, but its defense will need to tighten things up after getting torched by Stanford last time out.
California enters this game with a respectable home record (12–2 at Haas Pavilion) and an offense that scores 78.5 points per game. The Bears have struggled recently, winning just one of their last five games to start ACC play and falling short against quality opposition like Duke by 15 points in a recent home game. If not for some very favorable officiating late against Notre Dame, Cal would be 0-5 in ACC play thus far.
The Golden Bears’ offense is balanced but lacks an elite go-to scorer, with Dai Dai Ames pacing the team at 17.3 points per game and Justin Pippen offering consistent scoring as well. California’s tendency to rely on perimeter shooting, averaging 8.6 made threes per contest, could help them stay in this game depending on how well they shoot the ball.

The question going into this game is how North Carolina will respond after blowing a lead and falling to Stanford in their last game. I think UNC will come out sharp after that disappointing result. I'll lay the points with the Tar Heels in this contest, as they should drop Cal to 1-5 in ACC play when this one is over.
