The 2026 Cognizant Classic in Florida tees off from February 26 through March 1 at the Champion Course of PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This event launches the PGA Tour’s Florida swing and featurers thinner field and a tricky course setup that could lead to some surprises on the leaderboard. With a purse of $9.6 million and a winner’s share of $1.728 million, this year’s field lacks the biggest stars yet still could yield plenty of value in the betting markets. Here, I break down this tournament and make my 2026 Cognizant Classic prediction.

The Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach is a long-established stop on the PGA Tour, formerly known as the Honda Classic. Played on the Champion Course at PGA National, it is notorious for its unforgiving closing stretch and penal course design. With water in play on 15 of the 18 holes, players must balance aggression with precision to win.
The 2026 edition sits immediately after two Signature Events on the schedule, prompting many top players to skip the week in favor of rest or preparation for upcoming marquee tournaments. As a result, this year’s field contains no golfers currently ranked in the top 25 globally, with Ryan Gerard as the highest-ranked entrant. This presents a rare scenario where solid mid-tier names and course-fit specialists become leading betting targets.
While some golfers might see this as a week to gain FedEx Cup points, others will view it as an opportunity to capture a PGA Tour title. Recent winners of this event have often been surprising names, and past champions include Joe Highsmith in 2025, who won at 19-under, emerging from behind in spectacular fashion. The weaker field does not mean the golf will be easier, though, as the Champion Course remains one of the toughest tests on the Tour, demanding disciplined iron play and calm putting under pressure.
Of course, the presence of Brooks Koepka in this tournament is a storyline worth watching. Koepka defected from the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf but he is back with the PGA Tour now. When at his best, he could lap this field, but he's not at his best right now.
The Champion Course at PGA National Resort plays to a par of 71 and measures 7,223 yards. Water hazards dominate much of the course, and the infamous “Bear Trap” on holes 15, 16, and 17 can make or break a player’s round. Recent modifications have slightly widened fairways and added length, but this layout still rewards accuracy off the tee and excellent approach play.
The course’s Bermuda grass greens and bunker complexes mean that strong mid-iron play and proximity to the hole from 150-200 yards are valuable assets. Historical scoring data show it usually plays significantly tougher than the Tour average, with winning scores ranging from mid-teens under par to more modest totals depending on conditions and pin locations.
Looking at course history, recent form, and the current odds, Shane Lowry stands out as the most logical favorite to win outright at the Cognizant Classic. He has a strong record at PGA National, with several strong finishes in recent years and the type of disciplined ball striking the course layout demands. Lowry’s combination of accuracy, solid short game, and experience on tough courses gives him an edge over others in this field. I'll take him at +1900 in a tournament that could go in any number of directions from Florida.
