The Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners will meet at T-Mobile Park on Friday night. Both clubs have clinched their respective divisions and are preparing for the postseason. They will be looking to make a championship statement by performing well in this series against another elite team that is led by an MVP candidate. Emmet Sheehan (6-3, 2.86 ERA) will take the mound for the Dodgers in what is expected to be his final regular-season start before transitioning to a bullpen role in the postseason. Sheehan has been effective this season, with a solid ERA and WHIP. He has shown the ability to handle high-leverage situations and will try to prove he deserves postseason innings by pitching well against a playoff team here.
George Kirby (10-7, 4.24 ERA) will start this game for the Mariners. While his ERA is higher than Sheehan's, Kirby has been a reliable presence in Seattle's rotation. Kirby averages over one strikeout per inning and he will have his hands full with the dangerous lineup of the Rockies.
