Cleveland Cavaliers vs Detroit Pistons Prediction: Will Cavs' Road Issues Continue In Game 2?

The Eastern Conference semifinals continue Thursday night as the Cleveland Cavaliers try to respond after dropping Game 1 to the Detroit Pistons. Detroit controlled much of the opener and now holds a 1-0 series lead after a 111-101 win, fueled by solid defense, transition scoring, and timely offense. Cleveland now faces added pressure to avoid heading home in an 0-2 hole, while Detroit looks to protect home court with a win in Cavaliers vs Pistons Game 2.
Detroit enters Game 2 with clear advantages in defensive metrics and the advantage that comes with playing at home. In Game 1, the Detroit Pistons forced 19 turnovers and converted those into 31 points, a major edge that swung the game. They also dominated the free-throw battle, attempting more than double Cleveland’s total. That physical edge has been a consistent theme throughout Detroit’s playoff run so far.
Cleveland’s biggest concern is ball security and consistent scoring depth. While Donovan Mitchell and James Harden combined for strong production, the supporting cast struggled to keep pace. The Cavaliers also continue to show weaker form on the road, as they have gone 0-4 on the road in the postseason. If those issues persist, Detroit’s defensive pressure could again dictate the flow of the game.

Detroit’s edge entering Game 2 is difficult to ignore. The Pistons combine elite defensive metrics with strong rebounding and efficient interior scoring. Their ability to force turnovers and control tempo was evident in the opener, and those same advantages remain in play at home in Game 2. Cleveland has the higher-end scoring talent, but that edge has not translated consistently on the road in the postseason. I'm going to confidently lay the points with Detroit, who should take a 2-0 series lead to Cleveland for Game 3.
