The Knicks have been resting since May 10 after rolling through Philadelphia in the second round of the playoffs, while the Cavaliers are coming off a physical seven-game battle with Detroit that ended Sunday night. New York enters Game 1 as the betting favorite behind its deep rotation, strong defense, and home-court advantage. Here, I break down whether or not that status is warranted as I make my Cavaliers vs Knicks Game 1 prediction.
New York enters the series with a major scheduling advantage. The Knicks have had more than a week to recover and prepare after dominating the 76ers in the second round. That extra rest matters against a Cleveland group that has played intense games every other night for nearly three weeks. Fatigue is a legitimate concern for the Cavaliers, especially in a difficult road environment.
Another major storyline surrounds the health of OG Anunoby. The Knicks forward has been dealing with a hamstring issue, but the extra days off appear to have improved his status entering Game 1. His ability to defend Donovan Mitchell without constant help could shape the entire series. New York has relied on Anunoby to guard elite perimeter scorers throughout the postseason.
The interior battle is also fascinating. Cleveland starts Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen together, giving the Cavaliers size and rim protection that few teams can match.
