The Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies will meet in NBA Cup competition on Friday night in Memphis. Both of these teams are struggling early in the season and injuries have prevented them from reaching their full potential. But one team has to win on Friday night and I'll attempt to answer who that team will be by making my Mavericks vs Grizzlies prediction below.
Both teams are enduring rocky starts to the season. Dallas sits at 2‑6 and is averaging just 106.3 points per game while shooting 44.0% from the field and 31.5% from three. The Mavs rank at the bottom of the league in points per game. Dallas will hope that Anthony Davis can come back from injury for this game to give the Mavs a much-needed lift.
Memphis is 3‑6 and coming off four straight losses. Their offense is slightly better than that of Dallas. But the team has looked disjointed both on and off the court, with reports of Ja Morant not being happy with the way things are going with the franchise and Morant already serving a suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
Injury news is a big factor going into this game. Dallas is without Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively, and Dante Exum. Memphis will be without the services of Brandon Clarke, Ty Jerome, Scotty Pippen Jr. and Zach Edey for this game.
Memphis is playing at home in this game. But that hasn't helped Memphis all that much this season so far. The Grizzlies are 2-4 at home early in the year and they will not be able to rely on home-court advantage as enough to save them from their recent struggles.

I'm not sure which of these teams is going to get the win in this game. Both sides have been so inconsistent and their injury situations have not made things easy on them. Instead of taking a side in this game, I'm going to take the under. Both teams are struggling to put the ball in the basket and that should continue in this game with NBA Cup positioning on the line.
