Key Storylines
Recent form
Anaheim has stacked six straight wins, mostly in low-scoring fashion, including 2-1 at Colorado in a shootout and 3-2 over the Rangers. The Ducks have the longest active winning streak in the NHL entering Sunday.
Calgary is 0-2-1 in its last three games following a 2-1 overtime setback against New Jersey, a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh, and a 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. All three of those losses came at home and the Flames will try to bounce back here.
Goaltending
Lukas Dostal is fresh off a 40-save gem in Denver and has been a big reason for the Ducks' successes. His season line sits in the .890s for save rate with a goals-against average just over 3.00, but recent form is trending upward.
Dustin Wolf has largely occupied the crease for Calgary and has a .898 save rate this season. His results have been mixed in January, yet the wins have not been coming for the Flames so far this year.
Key skaters
Cutter Gauthier leads the Ducks with 23 goals, while Leo Carlsson paces them in points with 45, and Troy Terry leads the Ducks in assists with 29. But Carlsson is out with a thigh issue, while Mason McTavish and Troy Terry are also out of action with an expected return date of January 29.
Calgary's Nazem Kadri is the team's top point producer at 34, while Blake Coleman leads them in goals with 13, but has been on injured reserve.
Betting Trends & H2H
This is the first of four games that the Flames and Ducks will play against each other this season.
The Flames are 29-22 on the puckline going into this matchup.
The Ducks enter this game with a 26-25 puckline record going into Sunday.
Ducks vs Flames Model Projection
Score Projection: Anaheim 3 – Calgary 2
Win Probability: Anaheim 56%, Calgary 44%
Final Thoughts
Anaheim’s current groove, led by Dostal’s sharp form in goal, meets a Calgary group still finding its footing after the Andersson deal and with some key players sidelined. Home ice is always something to worry about in the NHL, but I think that the Ducks have the weaponry to overcome that in spite of their own injury concerns. I'll take the Ducks to win on the moneyline to get their seventh straight win.
