Both of these teams are near the bottom of their respective divisions and will try to get a win to start the process of changing that in this contest. Calgary enters after a 4-1 loss to Montreal, which was their third straight defeat on the road. The Flames have averaged under two goals per game during their three-game losing streak and they could struggle to generate offense again on the second night of a back-to-back. Boston’s saw a two-game winning streak end with a 7-4 loss to Seattle in their last game, though stars like David Pastrnak have continued to generate offence. The Bruins are in seventh place in the Atlantic Division, but are just two points out of a tie for fourth place, making this game a huge opportunity for them.
Devin Cooley is expected to start this game in goal for the Flames. He is the backup to Dustin Wolf, who played the first leg of the back-to-back for Calgary. Cooley has been respectable this season, with a 2.40 GAA that he will try to improve on further here. Boston’s Jeremy Swayman has been typically solid, though he was beaten multiple times in Seattle’s recent offensive outburst against Boston.
For the Flames, leaders like Nazem Kadri and Matt Coronato drive most of the offensive output. Calgary needs contributions beyond its top forwards to generate a consistent attack, though, something it has not had all the time. On the Bruins side, David Pastrnak remains the focal point, capable of changing a game with his high-end production. Morgan Geekie also provides scoring at high volume, and Boston needs some support from its other forwards to take control of this game in regulation.

The Bruins should have the upper hand in this contest on the ice on Thursday night. The Flames are a poor road team under normal circumstances. When you add a back-to-back on top of that, the results aren't likely to be pretty. I'll take the Bruins to get the job done on home ice, and I don't mind taking a shot at the puckline with Boston either.
