The Hurricanes enter this game having just dropped a 4–3 decision in a shootout to the Florida Panthers after surrendering a 3–0 lead in the third period. Sebastian Aho scored twice while Brandon Bussi stopped 38 of 41 shots before the extra session. Carolina remains the top club in the Metropolitan Division, and they will try to resume their winning ways here.
Tampa Bay has struggled in December, with recent results including a 2–1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings and a 5–2 defeat at the hands of the Panthers. The Bolts have dropped three straight games and they have fallen out of the top four in the Atlantic Division standings.
Carolina’s goaltending situation is somewhat fluid, with Brandon Bussi coming off a strong individual stretch yet taking the loss Friday. The Hurricanes might turn to Pyotr Kochetkov, who recently posted a win with a 25-save performance, or Frederik Andersen. My best bet for this contest is for the under to cash in Tampa. Vasilevskiy gives the Bolts a reliable netminder to slow down the attack of the Canes, while the offensive struggles of the Lightning will continue as well. No matter who wins this game, I'll take the under.
