Canada enters this semifinal as one of the most potent offenses in the tournament, cruising through group play and then surviving a roller-coaster quarterfinal against Czechia. Despite struggling to put the overmatched Czechs in regulation, Canada eventually prevailed in overtime thanks to a game-winner by Mitch Marner, keeping their unbeaten run intact.
Finland, the defending Olympic champions, also had to rally late and find an overtime winner to beat Switzerland 3–2, with Artturi Lehkonen scoring the decisive goal after a late equalizer by Miro Heiskanen. Both teams had to dig deep and show a ton of toughness to get a win in the quarterfinals, and they will likely be in for another tough test here.
Goaltending will be crucial in this contest. Canada’s Jordan Binnington was tested regularly against Czechia, but he stood tall when he needed to late in regulation and in overtime. This semifinal pits a powerhouse Canadian squad against a Finnish side that has plenty of talent of its own. Both teams showed an incredible amount of toughness to get to this point. And while I think that Canada will likely win this game, I prefer the over in the betting markets, as Canada's games have been high-scoring for the most part.
