The Montreal Canadiens and Calgary Flames will face off in the NHL on Wednesday night. These Canadian teams are moving in two different directions going into this matchup from Scotiabank Saddledome. The Habs are playing very well early in the season, while the Flames are struggling to find their footing both at home and on the road. The Canadiens have won five of their last six games. They most recently earned a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres by scoring three third-period goals to pull away. Their offense is humming and they are tied for the highest point total in the Eastern Conference early in the season.
The Flames are 1-6-0 and have been outperformed in nearly every phase of the game. Their opponents are outscoring them thanks to an offense that is averaging just 1.57 goals per game. The Flames’ last game was a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Despite holding the lead going into the third period, the Flames could not finish the job and will be desperate to bounce back.
Montreal's rookie netminder, Jakub Dobes, has posted a sparkling save percentage of .939 and goals-against average of 1.64. He has been a reliable option in net alongside Samuel Montembeault. The Flames’ expected starter is Dustin Wolf. Wolf has a 3.91 GAA and .867 save percentage in his outings this year. He has been far below league averages for starters.
The Canadiens are getting excellent contributions from center Nick Suzuki. He has amassed 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) in his last six games. Cole Caulfield leads the Habs with five goals early on. Veteran center Nazem Kadri has managed four points (all assists) in Calgary's games this season and remains a driving force for their offense. But his supporting cast has yet to deliver much of anything.

It is hard to justify backing the Calgary Flames given what we've seen from them of late. Montreal has a significant advantage offensively going into this game and that should help them to get the job done on Wednesday night. I'll take the Canadiens to win on the road and to prolong the miserable start for the Flames.
