New Jersey enters on a four-game win streak and Toronto is looking to get back into the win column as their homestand continues. The Devils are riding high. They’ve won four straight, including a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in their last outing. Jack Hughes delivered two goals and an assist in that game and goaltender Jake Allen made 27 saves. The Maple Leafs are 3-2-1 and have struggled defensively early on. They’ve allowed 20 goals in six games for an average of 3.3 goals against. They will need to tighten things up on defense against the red-hot Devils.
New Jersey has been relying on Jake Allen in goal in place of the injured Jacob Markstrom. Allen has a .934 save percentage and a 1.88 goals-against average in his early starts this year. Toronto’s starting goalie is Anthony Stolarz. He has a .897 save percentage and a 2.79 GAA and will need to be at his best to stop the Devils from getting rolling offensively.
William Nylander leads the way for Toronto with 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in six games. Auston Matthews has four goals and is averaging over four shots per game so far this year. New Jersey's Jesper Bratt leads the Devils with three goals and four assists through their first five games. This is shaping into a competitive tilt. And while the Devils are red-hot going into this game, I think that they will struggle on the road against a Maple Leafs team that has been strong at home for the most part. I'll take Toronto to win at home on the moneyline in what should be a good game from North of the border.
