The Ottawa Senators head into Friday night’s road game against the St. Louis Blues as the hotter team. Fresh off a dramatic 4–3 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights, Ottawa has rattled off three wins in four games. The Blues have been struggling, but they are back on home ice after an extended road trip and will try to get themselves back on track here. Ottawa has gained real traction lately. Their 4–3 shootout win over Vegas featured standout performances from a couple of key contributors. Jake Sanderson had a goal and two assists, while Shane Pinto netted the decisive shootout goal. The Senators are now 3-1 in their last four games and 6-2-2 over their last 10. The Blues have lost two games in a row and they’ve posted just one win in their last five games. Their -25 goal differential is the second worst in the NHL so far this season.
For Ottawa, Linus Ullmark is expected to get the start today. His GAA is just under 3.00 for the season and he will try to deliver the Sens a win in this matchup. On the St. Louis side, Jordan Binnington has been the go-to in goal. But his GAA has crept over 3.00 and Ottawa’s forwards will test him in this contest.
On offense, Shane Pinto has emerged as a top contributor for Ottawa, and Tim Stutzle remains dangerous as well. Both have been key to the Senators’ ability to generate offense lately. For the Blues, players like Dylan Holloway and Justin Faulk have tried to spark their attack, but no player has more than 6 goals so far this season for St. Louis and that is a major concern.
