The Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators travel to Sweden to play as part of the the NHL Global Series on Friday afternoon. The Penguins arrive with a record of 9-5-3, while the Predators are stumbling at 5-9-4 and losers of five straight. The Penguins are off to a strong start at 9-5-3, but they have lost two straight games and four of their last five. They are averaging 3.35 goals per game while allowing 2.65 goals per game against. They will try to end their recent struggles with a win over an ice-cold Predators team. The Predators are 5-9-4 and have lost five consecutive contests. They are averaging 2.56 goals per game and yielding 3.61 goals per game, which ranks among the league’s worst defensive figures.
Pittsburgh’s net front is in flux as veteran goaltender Tristan Jarry has been placed on injured reserve. That has meant more of Arturs Silovs, who has performed admirably with a 2.49 GAA. Nashville starter Juuse Saros has been hit hard; his save percentage is .892 and his goals-against average is 3.11 this season. Silovs will be expected to give Pittsburgh the advantage in net.
Forwards Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin continue to drive things on the attack for the Pens. Crosby has scored 11 goals and registered 9 assists. Malkin has been a potent playmaker with 18 assists. This is a tough game from a prediction standpoint, given that we have no idea how both sides are going to respond to traveling internationally to play at a time that is much earlier than they are used to. Still, I'm going with the Penguins in this neutral-site matchup. Their top end talent should be enough to disrupt the Predators and hand Nashville its sixth loss in a row.
