The Washington Capitals will visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. Both teams are playing for the second night in a row after getting wins on Saturday. But only one of these Metro Division teams will get a second win in as many nights in this contest. Before the puck drops from Madison Square Garden, continue reading to get my Capitals vs Rangers prediction.

The Capitals entered this game at 1–1–0 after a season-opening loss to Boston, followed by a bounce-back 4–2 victory over the Islanders. Aliaksei Protas put together a multi-point showing in the win over the Isles. Washington’s offense and defense have yet to find consistency, but Saturday's showing was encouraging.
The Rangers have strung together two wins in three games. Their latest 6–1 triumph over Pittsburgh saw Adam Fox give them a two-goal, one-assist night, while Igor Shesterkin was steady in net. New York’s confidence is high, and they will hope that playing at home helps to offset being on a back-to-back.
The goaltending situation in this game will be interesting to monitor. Igor Shesterkin and Logan Thompson usually start in net for these two teams. But both of them played last night and it will be interesting to see if they are given a night off here, or if they press on given that the season is so young.
Washington will lean on Aliaksei Protas, who has shown elite finishing and playmaking. He is evolving into a threat on every shift and already has four points. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson also bring a physical and scoring element for the Caps. New York's Adam Fox is a dual threat with offensive vision and the ability to run the show from the blue line. Mika Zibanejad, J.T. Miller, and Artemi Panarin will also be counted on to generate chances and log key minutes in transition.
Player | Prop Type | Projection |
|---|---|---|
Aliaksei Protas (WSH) | Points | Over 1.5 |
Adam Fox (NYR) | Points | Over 1.5 |
J.T. Miller (NYR) | Assists | Over 0.5 |
Score Projection: Rangers 3 – Capitals 1
Win Probability: Rangers 58%, Capitals 42%
I'm not entirely sure what to expect from either of these teams on the second night of their first back-to-backs of the season. Bettors may want to wait until goaltenders are confirmed for this game. But if I had to pick a side in this Eastern Conference contest, it would be the Rangers. New York has outscored their last two opponents by a 10-1 margin going into this game and they should continue their strong run of form here.
