The Hurricanes enter at 14‑7‑2 overall and 6‑3‑1 in home games. After beating Winnipeg 4–3 in their previous matchup a week ago, Carolina has lost two games in a row. The Canes are in second place in the Metro Division and will try to right the ship in this game. The Jets come in at 12‑10 overall and 6‑5 on the road. They enter this game on a three‑game losing streak. The Jets will try to step up on defense after giving up three goals or more in three straight games.
Winnipeg’s fortunes suffered recently when star netminder Connor Hellebuyck underwent knee surgery and will miss 4–6 weeks. Backup Eric Comrie is expected to start again.
