The Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild will face off on Thursday in a Central Division matchup in the NHL. These division rivals have been going in opposite directions of late, with the Jets entering this game on a winning streak and the Wild trying to shake off a disappointing recent stretch. Winnipeg has found life offensively, rattling off three straight wins, including a 5-4 victory over the Islanders and a 4-3 result against the Devils after an extended slump earlier in the season. The Jets have shown they can pile up goals but still struggle on the defensive end and have had difficulty sustaining consistency against stronger opponents. Minnesota has lost two straight games and four of its last five. They will try to bounce back here and move closer to the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche at the top of the Central Division standings.
Goaltending will be a focal point on Thursday night. Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck brings experience and has a respectable record in this head-to-head series, although his overall save metrics remain below elite levels this season. Minnesota will go with Jesper Wallstedt or Filip Gustavsson, both of whom have posted solid numbers and could provide the Wild with the edge between the pipes.
Offensively, the Jets rely heavily on star forwards such as Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele, both of whom have been consistent producers in their lineup. My best bet for this Western Conference matchup is for the Minnesota Wild to get a win at home over the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets have played some decent hockey of late, but their struggles on the road and their overall lack of cohesion over the course of this season makes it hard to justify backing them in this spot.
