The Winnipeg Jets head into Wednesday night’s National Hockey League matchup with the St. Louis Blues looking to get back on track after a difficult stretch of games. The Blues are hoping to capitalize on home ice advantage and build momentum in the Central Division standings. But only one team can win this matchup from Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Jets have struggled lately, dropping four of their last five games and arriving in St. Louis with a 15-15-2 record. Their most recent outing saw them take an overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators that highlighted their defensive struggles and inconsistencies on special teams. Winnipeg’s offense can be explosive but has been up and down in recent matchups, which they will look to fix here.
The Blues enter this contest with three losses over their last four games. They may not be in a position to take advantage of the struggles surrounding the Jets at this point in time. Defense has been a huge issue for St. Louis, as they have allowed five goals or more in three of their last four outings.
Goalies often determine close NHL games, and this one is no different. Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck returned recently from injury and remains a stabilizing presence in net with a strong track record. His performance will be central to the Jets’ chances even as he works his way back from injury. For the Blues, their goaltending has been disappointing this year. Both of their goaltenders have GAAs over 3.00 for the season.
Offensively, Winnipeg relies heavily on Kyle Connor, who leads the Jets in points and plays a pivotal role in creating chances on every line he works with. Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi add reliable scoring, but consistency remains a question mark for the rest of the group of late. St. Louis is sorely lacking in the scoring department, without a double-digit goal scorer on the year. Dylan Holloway leads the team with eight goals.

Winnipeg blew a lead in their last game and fell in overtime, but the return of Connor Hellebuyck is clearly a positive for them. I'll take the Jets to win this contest on the moneyline, as their struggles are no more concerning than that of the Blues.
