Both teams lost three of their final four games prior to the Olympic break and will try to start the post-break stretch on the right foot. The Jets enter this game with a record below .500 and they have lost two games in a row going into Wednesday night. This season has been a disaster relative to what was expected of the Jets this year, after they finished at the top of the Central Division a season ago. Vancouver sits at the bottom of the NHL standings with a record of 18-33-6, going into their break on a three-game losing streak. But one of these struggling teams has to win this game and it remains to be seen who that will be.
Winnipeg’s goaltending situation is a mess going into this contest. Connor Hellebuyck's Olympic performance was outstanding, posting a top-tier save percentage and making gold medal worthy saves on the world stage that could translate into confidence back with the Jets. But he is out for this game and that could hurt Winnipeg's chances of coming out on top here. For Vancouver, Kevin Lankinen is out and Nikita Tolopilo is expected to get the start in this matchup for a Canucks team that is desperate for any sort of spark from a goalie or elsewhere.
Jets center Mark Scheifele leads Winnipeg offensively with 27 goals and 41 assists, making him central to the Jets' chances here. Winger Kyle Connor also provides punch with a 25-goal, 39-assist season. Connor is back with the Jets after being benched for most of Team USA's run to Olympic gold. The Jets’ scoring has been inconsistent, but they at least have prolific producers.
On the Canucks’ side, veteran Elias Pettersson offers offensive leadership, though his point total is modest compared to elite scorers, and the team has suffered injuries that reduce their overall depth and offensive firepower. Filip Chytil is out indefinitely after a facial injury, weakening Vancouver’s lineup in a big way.

There are a ton of variables to think about going into this game. The Canucks have been horrible for the most part this season. But the Jets have some players coming back from the Olympic break that should prevent them from playing to their potential here. It's hard to feel good about backing the Canucks this season, but I will take Vancouver to win at home here.
