Newcastle arrive buoyed by recent returns to their lineup, while Everton are looking to bounce back from back-to-back league defeats. Newcastle have endured a disappointing Premier League campaign, currently placed 11th and having lost four of their last five league games. Their goal output has been decent, including in a convincing 4-1 away win over Everton in their most recent head-to-head matchup. However, defensive frailties have emerged at times this season as they enter this game having failed to keep a clean sheet in 10 straight outings.
Fixture congestion has certainly played a role in Newcastle's struggles in the league. They breezed into the last 16 of the Champions League by hanging nine goals on Qarabag over two legs in the playoff round, and they made a deep run in the League Cup before being cut down by Manchester City. But their schedule isn't getting much lighter just yet and the Magpies will need to find a way to limit their opponents on the scoresheet to climb the table.
