The 1000m event is centered around a handful of storylines that could shape the outcome in Milan Cortina. First and foremost is Jordan Stolz, the American prodigy who has taken speed skating by storm. At age 21, Stolz has become the face of men’s speed skating, boasting a 14-race unbeaten streak in the 1000m on the World Cup circuit. His dominance includes multiple world titles and world records, and his consistency over the past few seasons has set him apart from his peers.
Despite that, the road to Olympic gold isn't without competition. Polish skater Damien Zurek has impressed on the European circuit and is viewed as Stolz’s main challenger outside of the Dutch contingent. I'll take the American to win yet another high-profile 1000m race and for him to bring a gold medal back to the USA.
