The women’s snowboard big air event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina is set to be anyone's competition. With a field stacked with world-class talent and a no clear favorite in the betting markets, there are several competitors with legitimate gold medal chances at Livigno Snow Park. One of the big stories heading into the women's snowboard big air competition is the ongoing rivalry between Japan’s Kokomo Murase and New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott. Murase enters with the shortest odds to win gold and recent success in the big air discipline, including a World Championships title. Sadowski-Synnott has shown her competitive versatility by not only bouncing back from injury to land a triple cork in slopestyle but also consistently pushing boundaries in big air events this season.
There are six riders with odds of +1000 or shorter to win this event, while nobody is inside of +300 to grab the gold medal. That speaks to how wide open this competition is, with Murase and Sadowski-Synnott leading the pack, but by no means being locks to get the job done. Half of the top eight riders in the list of favorites are from Japan, but the rest of the world is gunning for the Japanese competitors in big air.
Veterans of the sport like Anna Gasser are also storylines in their own right, combining Olympic experience with a knack for high-difficulty tricks. Even though her odds are longer than those of some younger competitors, Gasser’s history in big air makes her a dangerous outsider capable of shaking up the podium.

With the odds being so wide open for this event, I think it could be beneficial to move a little further down the board when picking a women's snowboard big air gold medalist. I'm going to take Japan's Mari Fukada to claim the gold here, as she is trending in the right direction after taking first place in a late-November World Cup event and took bronze in the 2025 World Championships.
