The Connecticut Sun continue their road trip out west looking to stop another skid when they face the Portland Fire on Wednesday night. Portland, meanwhile, has quickly become one of the league’s surprise clubs. The expansion Fire have already collected several quality wins and are coming off an impressive road victory over the New York Liberty. Portland enters this game after one of its best performances of the season. The Fire erased a double-digit deficit against New York and dominated the fourth quarter in an 81-74 win. Carla Leite controlled the offense late, Emily Engstler anchored the defense, and Portland’s depth wore down the Liberty on the second game of a back-to-back for New York. That win improved Portland to 4-3 on the season and pushed the club above .500.

Connecticut’s effort level has remained solid, but the roster still appears thin against deeper teams. Unless the Sun suddenly improves defensively, Portland should have plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the night.
