The regular-season ACC championship went to Duke. The Blue Devils lost just one conference game this season, going 17-1 in conference play, as they have become one of the favorites to win the national title going into ACC Tournament time.
In the ACC tournament, the question will be whether or not another team can emerge to give Duke a run for their money. Two years ago, we saw DJ Burns and NC State go on a run that ended with them not just winning the ACC Tournament, but getting to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament as well. Last year, Cooper Flagg got hurt and made things much tougher on Duke. While you never know what could happen in college basketball, it seems clear that Duke will be one of the last teams standing in this league barring another injury, this time to Cameron Boozer.
Outside of Duke and Carolina, Miami and Virginia have emerged as the top two contenders to win this tournament. Miami got hot in the second half of the season and will try to translate that into postseason success, while Virginia's offense has been more explosive than we have seen it in a long time.
The location of this tournament is an interesting one, as it changes regularly. This year it will take place in Charlotte, NC, which should give a direct advantage to the teams based in North Carolina, including Duke.
The Atlantic Coast Conference, or ACC, was established in 1953 and is one of the top conferences in NCAA Division I basketball. Duke and North Carolina are the two most well-known teams in the conference. The Tar Heels have won the regular season championship a whopping 33 times while adding 18 ACC Tournament championships and six NCAA championships.
Those six NCAA championships give North Carolina the third-most NCAA championships, behind Kentucky’s eight and UCLA’s 11. The Blue Devils have won the regular season race 21 times while claiming 23 ACC Tournament championships. Duke has a total of five NCAA Championship titles heading into this year's postseason.
