Georgia Southern vs App State Pick & Prediction - 11/6/2025

The Georgia Southern Eagles will take on the App State Mountaineers in Sun Belt Conference action on Thursday night. Both of these teams are 1-3 in conference play and more or less out of conference title contention. But they are still playing for a possible spot in the upcoming bowl season and need wins in games like this one to help them get there. Appalachian State’s strength lies in its ability to defend the ground game. The Mountaineers allow just 110 rushing yards per game, while Georgia Southern gives up 240 rushing yards per contest. That differential is massive and could be the deciding factor in this game. Georgia Southern’s offense has shown flashes with quarterback JC French IV at the helm, but the Eagles’ defense remains the weak link of their team.
App State's offense suffered a letdown last week against Old Dominion on the road. The Mountaineers had scored 39 points per game over the two games prior to that matchup. But they only scored 21 points in a loss to the Monarchs. That was App State's second straight loss and has put them in a position where they need to win two of their final four games to become bowl eligible.
Appalachian State is 2-1 at home this year and knows that a win here is critical. Georgia Southern is 0-4 on the road, giving up more than 35 points per game in those contests. Appalachian State leads the all-time series against Georgia Southern. But the Eagles won this matchup 29-20 last year.
Georgia Southern's JC French IV comes into this game with 1,677 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also has five rushing touchdowns. French will be tested by an Appalachian State defense that has been better at home and is able to control the line of scrimmage.
App State QB AJ Swann has 1,083 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and six interceptions. Swann completed 12 of his 16 pass attempts with two touchdowns and no interceptions against ODU last time out. The Mountaineers might need to be more aggressive with Swann through the air to avoid another loss in this contest.

Win Probability: Georgia Southern 35%, Appalachian State 65%
App State should get the win at home in this matchup, with the only question being by how much. Instead of taking a chance laying the points with the Mountaineers, my best bet for this game is for the under to cash. App State should be able to control the trenches and force Georgia Southern into predictable passing situations. Look for App State to hold the Eagles in check to lead us to an under in Boone.
