Georgia State vs Georgia Southern Pick & Prediction - 10/18/2025

The Georgia State Panthers will go up against the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday night. This Sun Belt Conference matchup features two teams with losing records. But one of them has to win this contest between in-state rivals. Here, I take a closer look at this rivalry game and give you my Georgia State vs Georgia Southern prediction.
Both teams are struggling this season, with Georgia State averaging just 18 points per game and Georgia Southern allowing 37.5 points per game. Georgia State's offense has been inconsistent, while Georgia Southern's defense has been consistently bad. Execution and discipline have been issues for both teams, with Georgia State ranking 135th in red zone offense and Georgia Southern ranking 120th in time of possession. But one of them has to get their first Sun Belt win of the season in this contest.
Georgia State quarterbacks TJ Finley and Cameran Brown have combined for 1,418 passing yards and 11 touchdowns. But they have also thrown 11 interceptions, which has hindered their offense significantly. Georgia Southern quarterback Jalen French IV has 1,259 passing yards and nine touchdowns, but he has also thrown six interceptions. Protecting the ball will be crucial for all quarterbacks involved in this matchup.
These teams are a combined 3-9 on the season so far and they are both 0-2 in the Sun Belt so far this year. The Panthers and Eagles are tied at the bottom of the Sun Belt East standings. But one of them is required to win this game and get into the win column in Sun Belt play, even if it takes a million overtimes to get there.
I don't feel good about backing either of these teams to win or cover the spread in this contest. Instead, I'm going to take the under, as both offenses have struggled mightly throughout the season and that trend should continue in this in-state rivalry game in the state of Georgia.
