The Pittsburgh Panthers and East Carolina Pirates will square off on Saturday in the Go Bowling Military Bowl from Annapolis. Both teams finished the regular season at 8-4 and they will try to finish their year on a high note at the home of the Navy Midshipmen. Can the Pirates overcome some personnel questions to win a bowl game against an ACC opponent? Keep reading to get my Pitt vs East Carolina prediction for Saturday morning.

Pitt enters this bowl game as a solid favorite, thanks in part to its explosive offense and comparatively stable roster. After a regular season in which the Panthers scored 35.1 points per game, ranking among the top offenses nationally, they now face a Pirates squad that has seen departures on both sides of the ball.
East Carolina won the Military Bowl last season and ended the regular season with an 8-4 record, but the loss of key offensive players could really hurt them in their bid to repeat as the winners of this bowl game. Their starting quarterback is out for this game and that could hinder their ability to find an offensive rhythm in this neutral-site affair. In contrast, Pitt’s quarterback Mason Heintschel has steadily progressed since taking over under center in the middle of the season, and the Panthers’ defense ranks among the better units against the run and in generating turnovers.

Pitt should be able to win and cover the spread in the Military Bowl against East Carolina. If the Pirates had their top contributor on offense, they would probably be able to give Pitt a close game throughout this matchup. But they don't, so I'll go with the Panthers to win convincingly to close out their season on a high note.
