The New York Yankees will look to even their ALDS matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 2 of the series on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays blew the Yankees out in the opening game of the series and will try to take a 2-0 lead at home here. But the Yankees are favorites going into this contest, thanks in large part to the starting pitching matchup. Max Fried will take the mound for New York. He entered this postseason with strong form. He posted a 2.86 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 195.1 innings. In his first start of this postseason, he delivered 6.1 shutout innings against the Red Sox in the Wild Card round.
Rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage will get the start for Toronto in just his fourth major league start. He has a 3.21 ERA in 14 innings of work. In his last outing, he threw five innings of one-run ball. Toronto’s decision to lean on Yesavage in this postseason spot reflects both a necessity due to roster constraints and confidence in his stuff.
New York’s offense must respond after being held to just one run in Game 1. Aaron Judge is the star of the Yankees’ lineup. He had two of the team's five hits in their Game 1 loss on Saturday. The supporting cast around Judge needs to be better if they are going to even this series. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk both hit home runs in Game 1. They will try to chase Fried from this game early.
The Blue Jays snapped a long postseason drought with their dominant Game 1 win. That was their first playoff victory since Game 4 of the 2016 ALCS. Toronto has won five games in a row coming into this contest. New York had a two-game winning streak snapped in Saturday's loss to the Jays.

The Yankees should have the starting pitching advantage in this game, something they didn't have in Game 1 of the series. The lack of playoff experience for Yesavage will make it tough for him to outperform Fried, even if we saw Cam Schlittler deliver for the Yankees with no previous playoff experience on Thursday. My best bet for this game is for the Yankees to get a win on the road to even things at a game apiece before this series heads to the Bronx.
