These featherweight fighters both took losses in their last fights and will look to get back into the win column in this matchup. Jack Jenkins steps into this fight facing pressure to answer questions after his last outing. He lost that fight by submission to Gabriel Santos in February. That was his first submission loss since 2018 and it exposed some shortcomings in his grappling. Jenkins has shown he can mix kicks, hand combinations, and maintain control of distance. His striking has been a weapon in past matchups, and his ability to change angles could help prevent Taveras from landing power shots.
Ramon Taveras also lost his last fight. He dropped a decision to Davey Grant in December of 2024 and will try to get back on track in this matchup. Taveras is 1-1 since joining UFC and has yet to show the knockout power that got him a contract in the first place. Taveras will try to change that in this fight and get his first stoppage win with the promotion.
I expect Jack Jenkins to handle this fight cautiously early, letting Taveras expend energy pressing forward. Jenkins should chip away with counters and well-timed shots when opportunities present themselves. Taveras is unlikely to land a fight-ending shot early as long as Jenkins maintains his composure and doesn't leave himself exposed trying to land something huge. Jenkins’ volume and precision will build as the fight goes on, making it increasingly difficult for Taveras to dig out of a deficit.
If the fight stays standing, Jenkins likely takes rounds 2 and 3 decisively. A late finish is possible if Taveras gasses out and leaves himself open. Given Jenkins’ better defensive awareness and more rounded striking, the safest bet for me is a decision win for Jenkins. But I could see a scenario where Jenkins can apply pressure and land a late stoppage if Taveras overextends himself to try and make up a late deficit.
