Everything in this Eastern Conference semifinal series has pointed toward a dramatic finish, and now the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons head into a winner-take-all Game 7 on Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit forced the deciding game with a dominant 115-94 road victory in Game 6, overwhelming Cleveland with pressure defense, transition scoring, and physical play in the paint. The Pistons now return home as betting favorites, while the Cavaliers try to regroup after one of their weakest outings of the postseason. Here, I break down Cavaliers vs Pistons Game 7, as the winner will move on to face the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Detroit enters Game 7 with the stronger current form after controlling the second half of Game 6 from start to finish. The Pistons forced 20 turnovers in the last game and completely disrupted Cleveland’s offensive rhythm. Cade Cunningham continues to carry Detroit offensively in the series, while Detroit’s athletic wings have turned every possession into a grind for the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers still have the star power to win this game outright, especially with Donovan Mitchell and James Harden capable of erupting offensively. Harden scored 30 points in Game 5 and nearly carried Cleveland into the Eastern Conference Finals earlier in the week. The issue for Cleveland has been consistency. Outside of Mitchell, Harden, Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, the supporting cast has struggled to create offense against Detroit’s length and pressure.
Another major factor is the location. Detroit has looked far more comfortable offensively at home during this series, and the crowd inside Little Caesars Arena should create one of the loudest environments of the postseason. The Pistons already proved earlier in the playoffs that they can handle Game 7 pressure on their home court.

Game 7 basketball usually comes down to defense, composure, and rebounding, and Detroit currently holds the edge in all 3 categories. The Pistons have looked faster, more physical, and more connected defensively over the last 2 games of the series. Cunningham has been the best overall player on the floor, while Detroit’s supporting cast continues to contribute timely scoring.
Cleveland still has enough offensive talent to make this competitive deep into the fourth quarter, especially if Mitchell catches fire from the perimeter. The concern is the Cavaliers’ turnover problem and their inability to consistently handle Detroit’s ball pressure.
