The Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets will go at it in NBA Cup competition from Denver on Friday night. These teams played an overtime game in their first meeting of the season and another tight game is expected between them here. Denver has one of the healthiest rosters in the league right now, while Golden State is facing significant setbacks. Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is officially out for this game with an illness. Additionally, forward Jimmy Butler is listed as “questionable” with a lower back strain. Draymond Green is listed as probable but far from fully guaranteed to play. The Nuggets aren’t reporting major injuries heading into the game.
Golden State is also on the road in Denver for this contest. The Warriors will be contending with high altitude. They will also be contending with their own 1‑4 road record so far this season. The Nuggets are a perfect 4-0 at home and have looked sharp in establishing leads and protecting them at Ball Arena. Golden State did beat the Nuggets earlier in the season, but that game was in San Francisco and featured a healthy Steph Curry.
The Nuggets come into this game desperate for a win for NBA Cup purposes. Denver lost their cup opener to the Portland Trail Blazers and can't afford to drop to 0-2 if they want a shot to advance to the knockout rounds. This is Golden State's first cup game of this season and they will want to get off to a good start themselves.

The lack of Steph Curry on the floor makes it so much harder for the Warriors to generate offense. Curry's shooting ability speaks for itself, but the attention he forces the entire defense to give him helps make things easier for the other scorers on his team. Without Curry, I think the Warriors will struggle in Denver. I'm going to lay the points with the Nuggets in this marquee matchup at Mile High.
