The New York Giants head into Week 12 as huge underdogs on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Giants are reeling at 2–9, while the 6–4 Lions are jockeying for playoff positioning. Giants’ quarterback uncertainty: New York’s rookie signal-caller, Jaxson Dart, is still in concussion protocol and his status for Sunday remains uncertain. If he’s unavailable, Jameis Winston is expected to make another start. Winston filled in last week, throwing for 201 yards but turning it over twice. The instability at QB could hamper the Giants' already struggling offense.
Lions need to rebound strongly: Detroit is coming off a disappointing 16–9 loss to the Eagles, a game in which their offense stalled late and they failed on several fourth down conversion attempts. With three straight crucial games ahead, this is a must-win game for the Lions. The return of linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez from the PUP list gives Detroit a boost in defensive depth and special teams. Cornerback D.J. Reed is also expected to be available, which should help shore up their secondary.
Potential letdown spot: The Lions will host their annual Thanksgiving game just a handful of days after this game. That Thanksgiving matchup this year is against the rival Green Bay Packers. Detroit will need to be careful not to overlook the Giants with that in mind.
For the Giants, Dart has shown real flashes in his rookie season. He is completing over 62% of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just three interceptions across nine games. He’s also a threat on the ground, with 317 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. But his concussion raises serious concerns at quarterback for the Giants.
Lions quarterback Jared Goff continues to deliver. He’s thrown 21 touchdowns against only four interceptions this season and is completing nearly 70% of his passes. His efficiency and decision-making give Detroit a stable foundation, especially at home.
