The Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants will face off on Thursday Night Football this week at MetLife Stadium. The Eagles enter off their first loss of the season and will look to rebound against a Giants team struggling to find consistency. Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles offense, aiming to bounce back after a disappointing performance against the Broncos. Hurts had 280 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in that game. But he completed just 23 of his 38 pass attempts and will try to be more efficient against the Giants this week.
Rookie Jaxson Dart has shown flashes of potential for the Giants has struggled with turnovers. In the Giants' Week 5 loss to the Saints, Dart threw two interceptions as the Giants dropped to 1-1 with him as their starter. Facing a strong Eagles defense, Dart will need to protect the ball to keep his team competitive.
The Eagles' defense ranks among the league's best, particularly in their pass rush. They lead the NFL in sacks and creating pressure will be crucial against the inexperienced Dart, who has shown vulnerability under duress.
The Giants' defense has struggled to generate consistent pressure, managing only one quarterback hit against the Saints. Their lack of a consistent pass rush could allow Hurts ample time to exploit the Giants' secondary.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a New York Giants fan. Therefore, I would love nothing more than to see Jaxson Dart lead the Giants to an upset win over the Eagles that would give me a ton of confidence in Dart's ability to lead his team moving forward. But I don't think that the Giants are going to get that win, or come particularly close to it.
The Eagles are a team that you need to play close to a perfect game to beat. You need to limit their multi-dimensional offense both through the air and on the ground. And while you may not need to put up a huge point total, you do need to avoid turning the ball over and making things easy for them. I don't think Dart is there yet in his maturation process and I'll lay the points with the Eagles.
