The Canadiens have shown encouraging signs recently, getting three wins in their last four games. They find themselves in third place in the Atlantic Division and need to keep winning to solidify their playoff candidacy. Meanwhile, the Flames have hit a rough patch, losing their previous two contest. They most recently lost to the Seattle Kraken by a 5-1 margin. They have given up nine goals over those two losses and have to tighten things up on defense to get a win here.
Goaltending will be crucial in this matchup. Montreal has rotated between netminders with Samuel Montembeault and Jakub Dobes both having GAAs over 3.00 for the season. Calgary’s last outing saw Dustin Wolf give up five goals, an uncharacteristic result that is a microcosm of how poorly things have gone for Calgary of late.
On offense, the Canadiens boast balanced scoring with contributors like Juraj Slafkovsky, who recently tallied a goal and an assist for the Habs. I'm going with the Montreal Canadiens on home ice against the struggling Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. The Flames have been extremely leaky on defense and that trend should continue against a Montreal team that has seen its offense put up some big numbers in their recent outings. I don't begrudge those who want to lay the puckline with Montreal, but I'm content to stick with the moneyline here.
