The Colorado Avalanche (7‑1‑4) will make the trip to face the San Jose Sharks (3‑6‑2) on Saturday at the SAP Center at San Jose. Colorado has one of the best records in the league and San Jose is still struggling to find its footing. But the Sharks have claimed at least a point in half of their home games so far this year and will try to put a scare into the Avs in this game. Colorado has started the season in dominant fashion (7‑1‑4), ranking near the top if the NHL in both goals scored and goals allowed. They are averaging 3.75 goals per game and allowing 2.50 goals per contest. San Jose has had a much tougher time. They are 3‑6‑2 and struggle defensively, surrendering about 4.36 goals per game. Colorado has the momentum going into this game and it will be interesting to see if that triumphs over San Jose's home-ice advantage.
The Avalanche have benefitted from solid netminding from Scott Wedgewood. Wedgewood is 7-1-2 this season and has a 2.53 GAA. But he might not play on the second leg of a back-to-back for Colorado. The Sharks have been inconsistent in goal. Both of their goaltenders have GAAs over 3.00 and they need a lot more from that position to be competitive throughout the year.
Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avalanche attack early in the season. He leads the team with 18 points, split evenly between nine goals and nine assists. Cale Makar has 13 assists to lead the Avs. San Jose puts most of its offensive eggs in the basket of Macklin Celebrini. Celebrini leads the Sharks with six goals and 11 assists and he could certainly use some help.

I am going to take the San Jose Sharks to cover the puckline as an underdog on Saturday afternoon. The Avs are the better team going into this game, but San Jose should be the fresher team, with Colorado playing in Vegas on Friday night. The Avs should still win this game, but I think it will be a close one in either direction.
