Florida enters this contest coming off a 4‑1 loss to the San Jose Sharks that saw offensive chances go unconverted and defensive holes exposed. The Panthers have lost two of their last three games and they will try to rebound on the road, where they have performed well of late.
Winnipeg has also lost two of its last three games, but their win over St. Louis last time out suggests the Jets can still be dangerous on home ice. The Jets are tied for the fewest points in the Central Division this season and they have some work to do if they want to climb the standings and see playoff hockey again this season.
For Florida, Sergei Bobrovsky has seen his save percentage fluctuate this season and it is just .875 going into this contest. He has not looked like the Stanley Cup winning goalie that he has been in the past and he will try to step up in an interesting goalie matchup here. Winnipeg’s veteran starter Connor Hellebuyck has been similarly inconsistent, with injuries and poor play making it a rough season by his standards.
Offensively, the Panthers rely heavily on Sam Reinhart, who has produced at a near point‑per‑game pace this season with 24 goals and 23 assists. His play is even more important than usual with Brad Marchand on IR. For the Jets, Mark Scheifele has been the driving force, tallying 25 goals and 36 assists, while Kyle Connor has contributed consistent production and his linemates have chipped in timely scoring.
