The New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild will meet in NHL action on Wednesday night. The Devils enter this game as one of the hottest teams in the NHL. But they will need to overcome a rest disadvantage if they want to keep that winning streak alive. Here, I take a closer look at this matchup on the ice and bring you my Wild vs Devils prediction.

The Devils have exploded out of the gate following a loss in their season opener. They have won five straight games entering Wednesday night. Their last outing was a 5-2 road victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jack Hughes recorded a hat-trick in that game. He now has a four-game point streak with eight points in those games. But this is the second game of a back-to-back and that could negatively impact them.
Minnesota just snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers. But their 3-3-1 record speaks to some inconsistency early in the year. Their power play leads the NHL with a 34.5% success rate. But their penalty kill is a major concern at just around 72%. This is the fifth straight road game for the Wild and they will try to overcome being away from home for so long.
The goaltending situation will be interesting for the Devils in this game. Jake Allen stopped 23 of 25 shots in the Toronto game on Tuesday. He has been rock solid since stepping in for the injured Jacob Markstrom. But we could see him rested on the second game of a back-to-back.
The Wild have quietly been under pressure defensively. Filip Gustavsson is 2-3 early in the season and has a GAA of 3.04 for the year. He will try to build on a successful defensive performance from the Wild in their most recent outing.

Under normal circumstances, I'd take the Devils to win this game. But with the Devils at a rest disadvantage, I think there is some value on the underdog. I'll take the Wild to get a second straight win by clamping down defensively and taking advantage of New Jersey's goaltending situation.
