Here, I take a closer look at this matchup between Eastern and Western Conference opponents in this contest and give you my Wild vs Capitals prediction for tonight's game.
Washington has been skating with confidence. They’re 3–1 to date, winning three games in a row after dropping their season opener to the Boston Bruins. Minnesota sits at 2–2 entering this game. They have alternated between wins and losses in each of their games and they will try to find some consistency starting with this matchup.
The Capitals’ recent win over the Rangers was led by a 35-save shutout from Charlie Lindgren. But Logan Thompson is the starting goaltender for the Caps and he will try to deliver once again for his team after a 2-1 start. Minnesota's goaltending situation is led by Filip Gustavsson. He is 1-2 on the season so far and has a .888 save percentage. He needs to be better if the Wild are going to contend for a playoff spot.

Washington is playing some of the best hockey in the NHL right now. They have won three games in a row and I think that they will continue that winning streak in this contest. The Wild's defense has been inconsistent early in the year, allowing 15 goals in four games. I think that the balanced attack of the Caps will punish the Wild defense here and I will take the Caps to win as a slight favorite at home.
