The New York Islanders will take on their tri-state area rivals when they face the New Jersey Devils on Monday night. The Islanders are 7-6-2 overall and are still searching for consistency, while New Jersey has an impressive 11-4-0 record and remains the only team yet to drop a home game this season. The Devils are one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference. They are off to an 11-4-0 start and have a perfect 7-0-0 home record this season. They are tied atop the Metropolitan Division and will try to move ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes for the top spot tonight.
The Islanders are still trying to find a rhythm. At 7-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 on the road, they have shown flashes, including a recent shutout win over the New York Rangers. But they lack the consistency that New Jersey has shown early on.
Jake Allen has been red-hot in net for the Devils so far this season. He has a 6-2-0 record and a GAA of 2.29, which is good for fourth in the league. Ilya Sorokin remains the anchor in net for the Islanders. But both goaltenders for the Isles have GAAs of 3.00 or higher and the goaltending needs to be better if they want to hand the Devils their first home loss of the season.
Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt have provided a nice one-two punch for the Devils this season. Hughes is topping the scoring charts with 10 goals and 18 points so far. Bratt has chipped in with 9 assists to lead the team in that department. Bo Horvat leads the Islanders with 11 goals and 18 points, while Mathew Barzal has 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points.

The New Jersey Devils have played like legitimate Eastern Conference title contenders so far this season. I expect that to continue in this game against an Islanders team that just hasn't found its rhythm yet this year. Look for the duo of Hughes and Bratt to lead the Devils to a win on their home rink.
