The Washington Capitals will visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night in an Eastern Conference matchup. The Capitals are coming off a win last night and will try to overcome the demands of playing for the second straight night against a Penguins team that has struggled in their recent outings. The Capitals enter this game after a rough stretch, winning only one of their last five outings. They’ve been inconsistent but they did get a 6-1 win last night against the St. Louis Blues and will try to build on that here. The Penguins have started the year strong at 8-4-2. But they have lost three of their last four games and will look to turn things around against a Capitals team that is playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
Pittsburgh won’t have their usual starting net‐minder. Tristan Jarry has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body issue and is expected to be gone for at least three weeks. Arturs Silovs has been similar statistically in net for the Pens and he will try to carry the load in net in Jarry's absence. Washington is also expected to go to its backup goalie after Logan Thompson turned in another great performance last night. It should be Charlie Lindgren in net for the Caps here.
Washington's Tom Wilson leads the team with 15 points and 8 goals so far this season. Defenseman Jakob Chychrun has a +9 plus-minus, showing his value both offensively and on defense. The duo of Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby continues to lead the Penguins. Malkin has a team-high 19 points and 16 assists. Crosby leads the Pens with nine goals on the year.

The rest advantage for the Penguins should be a significant factor in this game. Pittsburgh should take advantage of the fact that the Caps are playing on the second leg of a back-to-back here. Look for the Pens to take advantage of a backup goalie in net for Washington, which will make a big difference given how good Thompson has been for Washington.
