One of the top stories in the buildup to the Milan Cortina luge competition is the resurgence of German sliding after some mixed results earlier in the season. Germany has historically dominated luge at the Olympics, and in the final practice at Cortina, German sliders posted blistering times that reminded everyone of their pedigree and depth. Max Langenhan, Felix Loch, and Timon Grancagnolo all showed strong speed in final training runs, suggesting the Germans are ready to reclaim winter sliding gold.
Austria’s Jonas Mueller has been earning serious buzz as one of the favorites, holding the shortest odds among sliders not from Germany or Italy. His consistency on the Luge World Cup circuit this season has kept him near the top of standings and placed him in a fantastic position entering the Olympic action. But Fischnaller should have a better knowledge of this surface than most of his competitors, which should help him to get the job done on home ice in what should be four exciting runs for the sliders and their fans.
