The Central Michigan Chippewas and Northwestern Wildcats will face off in the 2025 GameAbove Sports Bowl on Friday afternoon. Central Michigan earned its bowl berth with a 7-5 regular season, while Northwestern reached the postseason at 6-6, setting up this matchup at Ford Field in Detroit. Northwestern is a double-digit favorite going into this game. I'll let you know if I think that's justified here, as I make my Central Michigan vs Northwestern prediction.

Northwestern enters this postseason matchup as a double-digit favorite, with expectations that its Big Ten schedule has prepared it well for bowl competition. The Wildcats' defense finished among the top third in FBS in scoring defense and overall defensive efficiency, holding opponents to 21 points per game while limiting both run and pass yardage effectively. But Northwestern lost four of its final five games in the regular season and will try to get a much-needed victory here.
Central Michigan showcased a stronger ground game in the Mid-American Conference and a defense that ranked above average in points allowed, though its passing attack struggled throughout the season. The Chippewas are led by senior playmakers, and first-year head coach Matt Drinkall looks to cap an impressive turnaround with a bowl victory.
Quarterback performance will be a major factor in this game. Northwestern’s Preston Stone has accumulated over 2,100 passing yards with 14 touchdowns. But the senior has been inconsistent at times, and turnovers have been a concern given his 12 interceptions this season. His ability to manage the game and avoid mistakes against Central Michigan's front will be crucial.
On the opposite sideline, Central Michigan’s Joe Labas has thrown for 1,676 yards with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions this year. He will face one of his biggest challenges of the season against a Big Ten defense and will try to prove himself on this stage at Ford Field.

I think this is going to be a closer game than the oddsmakers do. Central Michigan is going to give this game everything they have against a Big Ten opponent. And while my expectation is that Northwestern will ultimately win this game, I'm going to take the points with Central Michigan, as they should keep the final score within around a touchdown in a relatively low-scoring matchup in Detroit.
