James Madison vs Marshall Pick & Prediction - 11/8/2025

The James Madison Dukes will put their unbeaten Sun Belt Conference record on the line against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday afternoon. JMU's only loss this season came against a Louisville team that is currently ranked and the Dukes will try to continue their winning ways in this contest. Before kickoff from West Virginia, you can find my James Madison vs Marshall prediction below.
One of the biggest storylines here is how James Madison has emerged as a dominant force in the Sun Belt this season. The Dukes’ defense allows only 16.1 points per game, ranking 11th nationally in that category. Their run defense is particularly strong, giving up about 80.3 rushing yards per game. The Dukes have a huge advantage defensively over a Marshall team that gave up 44 points to Coastal Carolina in their last game.
Marshall will hope that its offense can offset any disadvantage they may have on the defensive side of the ball. The Thundering Herd is averaging 34.1 points per game and they are explosive both through the air and on the ground. Quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson leads the Thundering Herd in both passing and rushing and will need to be great to keep his team in this one.
The Sun Belt title race is also a huge storyline going into this matchup. James Madison is undefeated in conference play and equipped to vie for the Group of Five playoff bid if they can keep winning games in dominant fashion. But they will need to avoid being tripped up in games like this one in order to accomplish that.
James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett III has thrown for 1,516 yards, 13 touchdowns, and only three interceptions this season. He has also scrambled for 364 rushing yards and added 10 rushing touchdowns. Del Rio-Wilson has 1,286 passing yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions this year. He also has 414 rushing yards and four rushing scores.
Score Projection: James Madison 38 – Marshall 20
Win Probability: James Madison 79%, Marshall 21%
I would expect James Madison to win this game convincingly to stay unbeaten in the Sun Belt. But instead of taking a risk betting that outcome in a tricky road game, my best bet for this contest is for the over to hit. Both of the quarterbacks in this game are among the best Group of Five quarterbacks in the country and we should see them each lead their teams to enough scoring to hit the over here.
