They will try to avoid being tripped up by a Virginia Tech team that is hungry to get above the .500 mark in ACC play. Here, I break down this matchup in college football and give you my Louisville vs Virginia Tech prediction.
Louisville enters this game buoyed by one of the toughest defenses in the ACC and an offense that has shown consistent scoring ability. They have scored at least 24 points in their last 21 straight games. Virginia Tech is seeking to build on a recent resurgence under interim coach Phillip Montgomery. They enter this week with a 3-5 record and they have struggled to gain traction against higher-tier opponents.
Louisville also comes off a signature win over then-number two Miami and a win over Boston College. Virginia Tech is coming off a double overtime win over the Cal Golden Bears and they will try to build on that result with a second consecutive victory.
Louisville quarterback Miller Moss is managing the Cardinals offense effectively. Moss has thrown for 1,793 yards this season, with 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones has thrown for 1,516 yards with 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. His dual-threat ability gave the Hokies a spark against Cal last week. The Hokies all but abandoned their passing game in the second half against the Golden Bears, running frequently with Drones to pick up chunk yardage.

Louisville has the superior combination of offensive efficiency, defensive consistency, and momentum heading into this ACC road game. Virginia Tech has a quarterback who can chew up yardage on the ground, but they lack the consistency and depth to match the Cardinals across all phases of the game. I recommend laying the points with Louisville here, as they should avoid a loss that would severely diminish their chances of making the ACC title game.
