The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will visit the Delaware Blue Hens on Wednesday night in college football action. The Blue Hens are off to a respectable start to their first season of FBS football. They will try to continue playing well against a Middle Tennessee team that has been one of the worst in FBS competition. Delaware enters this game with an offense that’s looked respectable in its first FBS season. Quarterback Nick Minicucci has compiled over 1,800 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and just three interceptions so far. Their passing attack averages roughly six yards per play, while Middle Tennessee’s pass defense surrenders nearly 7.1 yards per attempt, ranking in the bottom third of the FBS.
Middle Tennessee has struggled to generate offense. They are averaging just 17 points per game and rank 133rd nationally in scoring. Their rushing game has averaged 82.8 yards per game, placing them 134th in the country. Middle Tennessee will need to find some chunk plays if they want a shot at ending their three-game losing streak.
The Blue Hens give up 28.3 points per game. That is far from elite, but is solid when compared to the struggling defense of the Blue Raiders. And with Delaware having home-field advantage, the Blue Hens will be expected to outperform MTSU on defense here.
Delaware’s Minicucci is the engine for his team's offense. His completion percentage hovers in the low 60s and his 3/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio speaks to his efficiency. Minicucci has been very good to lead his team to a respectable debut season at this level of competition.
Middle Tennessee signal-caller Nicholas Vattiato has posted decent numbers. He has a 61.1% completion rate, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. But the surrounding supporting cast and offensive line haven’t provided much in the way of help. The Blue Raiders’ pass offense averages only 6.1 yards per attempt, ranking in the bottom quartile nationally.
