Pick: Troy +12.5
Confidence: ★★★☆☆
The Old Dominion Monarchs have won two games in a row going into this matchup. They need to win and get a lot of help to stay in contention for a division title in the Sun Belt East, but they are bowl eligible no matter what. Old Dominion’s offense has been one of the more productive units in the Sun Belt. They average 31.9 points per game and move the ball for 453 yards per contest. Their defense allows 23.4 points per game.
Troy has scored 27.0 points per game and allows 24.1 points per game. They suffered their first conference loss of the season in their last game against Arkansas State. But they can still make the Sun Belt title game and control their own destiny to do so. The Trojans could get a boost in the return of quarterback Goose Crowder. Troy has said that they will use both Crowder and backup Tucker Kilcrease in this game and it will be interesting to see how that duo performs while having to share snaps with one another.
Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph has thrown for over 2,200 yards with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. Joseph is averaging 9.7 yards per attempt and he will try to be efficient through the air in this game as well. Troy has been led by quarterback Tucker Kilcrease. Kilcrease has thrown for 1,400 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He will likely split the action with Crowder in some capacity.
Score Projection: Old Dominion 34 – Troy 24
Win Probability: Old Dominion 80%, Troy 20%
Old Dominion is undefeated at home so far this season and I would expect them to keep it that way in this game. But I also think that Troy will manage to keep things close enough to cover the spread here. Troy will be hard to prepare for with two quarterbacks likely featuring in this contest and I think that they will stay within 10 points or so to cover the spread.
