The Saturday night matchup between the UCLA Bruins and Ohio State Buckeyes is a one‑sided affair on paper. The Buckeyes enter this week at 9‑0 and ranked number one in the country. They host a UCLA squad that comes in at 3‑6 and is mired in offensive and defensive struggles. Ohio State is a heavy favorite at home. The first major narrative when looking at this game is the sheer dominance of Ohio State across the board. The Buckeyes’ defense ranks among the best in the country, allowing under 8 points per game. Their offense is efficient and quarterback Julian Sayin has completed over 80% of his passes with 24 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. UCLA’s offense has been inconsistent and their defense has been shredded on the ground, surrendering well over 190 rushing yards per game. The Bruins simply do not present the type of unit capable of posing a sustained threat to the top team in America.
UCLA comes into this game at 3-6 on the season. They have to win out in order to become bowl eligible. Given that they are massive underdogs in this game, that isn't likely to happen. But the Bruins will try to put the Buckeyes on upset alert to keep their slim hopes of seeing bowl season alive.
Julian Sayin of Ohio State has been exemplary at quarterback. The efficiency is off the charts from Sayin. He is completing over 80% of his throws and averaging 9.4 yards per attempt. The Ohio State offense functions at a level that very few teams can match.
UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava leads the team in both passing and rushing yards but has struggled with consistency. He is completing 63.7% of his passes with 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. On top of that, UCLA’s protection and playcalling are not expected to be able to offset the strength of Ohio State’s front seven.
This should be another one-sided game involving Ohio State. The Buckeyes haven't been challenged at all this season after playing Texas in the opening week of the season. They should roll here, but my best bet is on the under in this one. Ohio State should hold UCLA under 10 points and they should be able to bleed clock in the fourth quarter to prevent this game from reaching the total.
