Virginia Tech's Offensive Struggles: The Hokies have faced challenges on offense, ranking 116th nationally in passing yards per game. Quarterback Kyron Drones has thrown for 1,216 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Running backs Terion Stewart and Marcellous Hawkins have been the primary offensive threats, combining for over 500 rushing yards. But the Hokies' offensive line has struggled with pass protection, allowing 18 sacks this season. That needs to change if Virginia Tech is going to put Georgia Tech on upset alert here.
Georgia Tech's Dual-Threat Quarterback: Senior quarterback Haynes King has been a standout for the Yellow Jackets. He has thrown for 758 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He has also rushed for 380 yards and seven touchdowns, making him a dual-threat weapon that Virginia Tech's defense will need to contain on multiple fronts. Georgia Tech's offense ranks 15th nationally in total yards per game, averaging 475 yards per contest.
Playoff Chase: Georgia Tech enters this week ranked 14th in the country. If they continue to win games, they will remain in the hunt to make it to the College Football Playoff. I would expect Georgia Tech to win this game at home and to stay unbeaten on the season so far. But I am not convinced that Georgia Tech will put up enough points to cover a spread of greater than two touchdowns. I think that this game will end up being a comfortable 7-10 point victory for the Yellow Jackets, while the Hokies cover the number in Atlanta.
