The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will travel to Springfield to face the Missouri State Bears on Saturday night. This will be both teams’ Conference USA opener for this season and it will be Missouri State's first-ever Conference USA game. Western Kentucky enters with a 3-1 record, while Missouri State sits at 2-2 in its first season as an FBS/Conference USA member. Maverick McIvor (WKU): McIvor is the engine of Western Kentucky’s offense. He’s thrown 10 touchdowns against two interceptions and ranks among the national leaders in yards per attempt. The Hilltoppers lean on McIvor to push the ball vertically and stretch defenses and he will look to do that successfully here.
Jacob Clark (Missouri State): Clark is shouldering the offensive load for the FBS debutants. He’s thrown for 1,052 yards so far this season. The Bears rely on him to make plays, but he also needs clean protection to do that. Missouri State’s pass protection is a key concern as their players in the trenches adjust to FBS football.

In their first season at the FBS level and in Conference USA, Missouri State is ambitious, especially at home. But the transition is tough, and Western Kentucky brings an experienced, efficient passing offense that can exploit mismatches in the defensive backfield. Clark and the Bears may land some blows, but I don't think they will be able to keep up with Western Kentucky. I'll lay the points with the Hilltoppers here.
